At 828 Real Estate, our Free Little Pantry initiative, situated in front of our Downtown Boone, North Carolina office, stands as a testament to our commitment to assisting those in need within our community.
The Free Little Pantry offers a discreet avenue for sharing non-perishable food items and essential hygiene products, such as toothbrushes, toilet paper, and toothpaste, with community members facing hardship. Our motto is simple: “Please take what you need and share what you are able.”
At 828 Real Estate, we kindly request that donations be non-perishable items (e.g., canned vegetables/meats, dry foods, baby food, and bottled drinks) within their expiration date. Your contributions are greatly appreciated! Donate Here
Our How and Why:
The concept of establishing a Free Little Pantry had been circulating within our office, prompting me to take the initiative in its construction. I enlisted the help of my neighbor, Jody, whose skills and tools were invaluable in the process. Utilizing repurposed wood from my coworker Corrinne and various spare pieces from Jody’s garage, we crafted a beautiful pantry that embodies our dedication to community involvement and positive impact.
About Free Little Pantries:
The origin of mini food pantries is somewhat elusive, but Jessica McClard initiated the Little Free Pantry movement in May 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas. McClard aimed to raise awareness about local food insecurity while fostering a space for neighbors to support one another’s food needs without judgment. It’s important to note that the Little Free Pantry is not an organization or non-profit but a grassroots community movement.

Location is key! The box should be placed in a secure area, easily accessible to the public, and in close proximity to sidewalks and public transportation. Additionally, there are numerous YouTube tutorials and blueprints available online to guide you through the process.
